Meta has acquired Conductor, a small startup whose app lets developers run several AI coding agents, such as Claude Code and Codex, side by side on one project. Meta confirmed the deal to TechCrunch on November 4, 2026, but did not share the price. If you use Conductor, the important part is not the deal itself. It is the shutdown calendar.
Coffee summary
- FACT: Conductor stopped new sign-ups and downloads on November 4. Pro users keep Pro features for free.
- FACT: Conductor Cloud goes read-only on Friday, November 13, and shuts down on Friday, November 20, when cloud data deletion begins.
- FACT: The local Mac app keeps working and gets new models and critical fixes until early 2027.
- CLAIM: The founder promises “something new” from the team early next year.
What happened
Conductor launched in July 2025. Its idea was simple: instead of chatting with one coding agent, you give several agents separate, isolated workspaces and let them work on different parts of a project at the same time. The agents themselves come from labs like Anthropic and OpenAI. Conductor was the control room.
Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced the move on the company blog, saying the team has “big, crazy plans for the next interface.” Meta did not say how Conductor will fit into its own products.
Why it matters
This is part of a clear trend. Big companies are buying the tools that manage coding agents, not just building the agents. For users, it is also a reminder that small AI tools can disappear fast. Conductor gave about two weeks before cloud data starts being deleted.
Who should care
- Current Conductor users, especially anyone with chats or workspaces in Conductor Cloud.
- Engineering teams that built a workflow around parallel agents and now need a backup plan.
Limitations
We do not know the deal price or what Meta will build. The local app is supported only “until early 2027,” so it is a bridge, not a long-term home. Conductor says it will delete all user data when the app finally shuts down.
What to do next
- Before November 13: move each cloud workspace to your Mac. In Conductor, right-click the workspace and choose Transfer to local.
- Export a full archive: go to Settings → Account → Export data. Keep the file somewhere safe.
- Make sure your code is pushed to your own Git repository. Do not rely on any tool’s workspace as your only copy.
- Plan an alternative for parallel agents, such as running agents directly in separate Git worktrees, or tools covered in our related posts below.
- Questions go to [email protected]. Active cloud subscribers are due a refund, according to Conductor.
AIImpish Take
If you use Conductor Cloud, export this week, not on November 19. The bigger story is that multi-agent coding is now valuable enough for Meta to buy the people building it. Expect more of these deals, and keep your own copies of anything an AI tool holds for you.
